2020 - 2021 District Teachers of the Year

Veronica Perez
Harada Elementary 

.Veronica Perez teaches second grade Dual Immersion at Harada Elementary School.  She has taught for 17 years, all of which have been in the Corona-Norco Unified School District.  Veronica believes in five essential elements that provide her students with great learning opportunities.  These elements include providing good communication, creating hands-on activities,  allowing student choice, providing practice in a risk free environment and encouraging students to help others outside the classroom.  She states, “Understanding how to teach each child more effectively is my greatest accomplishment.  I feel privileged to be a dual immersion teacher and get to teach part of my day in Spanish, my native language.”  Veronica earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree and her Master Degree from California State University, Fullerton.



Emmie Christensen
Ramirez Intermediate

Juliana Thornton

Emmie Christensen currently teaches 7th grade Science at Ramirez Intermediate School.  She has taught a total of 22 years, 21 of which have been in the Corona-Norco Unified School District.  Emmie believes that her greatest accomplishment in education is her students’ success.  The relationships that she builds with students and the lessons she teaches about life are what she considers her greatest contributions.  Her main focus in her instruction is “reaching students on a personal level and instilling a love of science in them that hopefully will lead them to become interested in the world around them.”  She provides opportunities for her students to explore how the world is affected by their actions and is on a learning journey with them as a guide, teacher and student, as they teach her, as well.  Emmie received her Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln and her Master Degree from California State University, San Bernardino.

 


Anna Robinson
Pollard High 
Grace Wilson

Anna Robinson teaches 12th grade Economics and 11th and 12th grade Unity at Lee V. Pollard High School.  She has taught for 20 years, seven of which have been in the Corona-Norco Unified School District.  Anna takes the time to get to know her students.  She builds a relationship with them so that they know that she cares about them and that they can count on her to be consistently optimistic and calm.  Anna believes that, “The work I do with my UNITY leaders is my greatest accomplishment in my teaching career, thus far.  My UNITY leaders are chosen for their hidden potential.  Because many students who come to Pollard need a second chance, we make it our mission to help them learn to love school again.”  Anna earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Michigan State University and her Master of Arts Degree from California State University, San Bernardino.



Heidi Oberdank
Roosevelt High 

Heidi Oberdank teaches 11th and 12th grade AP Language Arts at Eleanor Roosevelt High School.  She has taught for 13 years, all of which have been in the Corona-Norco Unified School District.  Heidi believes that her students need her diligence, knowledge, kindness, empathy, encouragement and total support.  She is able to connect easily with her students.  Whether they are in her class, on her teams or in her clubs, students know that she cares about them and that she is there to work with them through all of their triumphs and trials.  She states, “My particular strength is my connection with my students.  I learn about them, I show them that I care, and I make sure they know that I will be there for them through whatever journey they embark upon.”  Heidi earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree and her Master Degree from the University of LaVerne.
